Hey, I am new here and thought I would post an introduction of sorts post...ifs that ok :P

My name is Angela and I am 17 years old. I have been semi-vegetarian for 7 or so months and during that time ate most animal products except red meat.

About a week or so ago I sat down and thought to myself of the difference between cows and chickens and why it was 'ok' for me to eat one and not the other. As a result I looked into a more vegan lifestyle and awoken to the reality of other animal products like diary and eggs. Before this I bought my family's thought that "an animal does not die laying an egg, giving milk e.t.c." With the new reality I have chosen to eliminated dairy, eggs, all meat from my diet.

I am surviving on plain vegetables/water/green tea at the moment as I am going food shopping Friday for healthy vegan alternatives to chocolate, milk, cheese, eggs e.t.c. My parents do not approve of me being vegetarian/vegan so I am going to start cooking vegan friendly meals for them to show them what I am not missing out on. So far I have been offered chicken, ice-cream and mcdonald ice-cream, and that was after I told my parents about wanting to have a more vegan diet that had no meat, eggs, dairy.

Well that is enough 'about me' for now, I am now to browse this and more vegan live journal communities.

Welcome.

I'm sorry for the way you are being disrespected by your family. You'll find allies here! :)

welcome.

my family did not support my decision to become vegan (in '98) they still do not support it. it can be tough sometimes.

if anything it will teach you to be strong in your convictions and follow your heart regardless of pressure from others. :)

it is sad that most people believe that animals are not harmed in the making of eggs and milk. it is difficult to convince them otherwise.

anything goes here in veggie_bitches. so feel free to post whatever you'd like whenever you'd like. there really aren't rules except just be nice i guess.

Wow, 8 years with no family support. You must have be very strong in your convictions. I will keep this in mined and I guess whatever does not kill you only makes you stronger

I think that I ate dairy and eggs when I ignored the facts as I liked the food too much, time for change though

Thanks :)
